Monday our third day at Douglas Ridge was the team match event. We had 6 teams that participated. The US Under 25 (different group than last week) the US International, (David Littlefield who was a Wrangler with me last week at Rattlesnake jumped ship to this team this week) Traitor! Our team the Wranglers, the Canadians, the Juniors (Bad Apples), and Charles’ team, Bud’s Gang. Firing was at 800, 900 and 1000 yards. This week my Wrangler team was made up of myself, Rich Vedvick, Wayne Budbill and Mike Mauer. Rich and Wayne traded off as coaches when the other had to shoot.
The entire day was very close. It usually does not get exciting until you get back to the 1000 yard line anyway. Add weather conditions to that distance and anything can happen. Granted the conditions were fairly calm this range is nearly impossible to see wind or mirage changes. The light was very flat and it rained and the mirage was not really there. The US International team was all done firing and we still had one shooter firing. Rich was shooting and Wayne coaching. I realized that we were 6 points ahead of the US Intl team and we had a clean score at the 10th round. All we needed was to do was hold on to 5 points. Well it did not happen. It got wacky with hard to read condition changes. We ended up losing by 1 point. I know one thing for sure. We should not have been hovering. I noticed Mike and I were standing over the score keeper and the other team was right behind us watching to see the outcome also. All of that presence did not help keep our shooter and coach at ease. I suppose we all have to be able to hold our own during tense situations but we should have given them space. Our team shot well. This one was just not meant to be. Once again I was thrilled to be invited to shoot with The Wranglers and I hope to keep shooting with them. We have many more matches to win! Here are scores for our two teams;

See you all at the WA ST High Power Championship this coming weekend. A two day event of Across The Course and a Leg match on Sunday. I need to dust off my AR and change my mental picture from prone to offhand and rapid fire. Charles is only 6 points away from getting his Distinguished. Can he do it at this match? I think so. I know so! Wow. Lots and lots of shooting happening these days.
