Good News and Bad News. Bad News – I had a miss at 1000 yards where I turned my sights the wrong direction. Good News – I still managed to get 2nd place Match Winner for this year’s championship! AND! Our team The Wranglers won the Championship!

Day 3 and final round of the 2011 Championship brought a lot of nail biting competition. Going in to Sunday, David Littlefield was in 1st, myself 2nd and Michael Storer 3rd. I needed quite a few points to catch up and beat David but I was hoping to hold on and at least keep my number 2 spot. What a day. Another blustery day. At 800 yards I dropped 5 points. I believe David and Michael were clean there. That made me nervous I could lose my lead. At 900 Michael had a great score again. David had a tough time and dropped several points. I only dropped 4. At the time of shooting I was not aware of their scores. Only mine. So at 1000 I am hanging in there and feeling confident I am reading the switchy wind well. I saw a big pick up and put about 3 minutes on and took my shot. A deep feeling of panic set in before I even realized what happened. My target stayed down a long time. I suddenly realized I may have corrected the wrong direction. I looked at my windage notches. Yes. I did. Oh my god, I just dropped 10 points. 10 points! I thought not only did I lose my 2nd place but sailed right down to the bottom of the pack. The thing I am proud of is that I held it
together and did not give up. By the time my target came back up
the wind had completely changed again so I had to start over from
dead zero. Basically my next shot would be sighter. I got a 10. I
dropped a few more points but nothing too horrible. When done
I was so deflated. Only when I found out that David and Michael
dropped just as many points as I did I feel any relief. NOT that I
am wishing bad things for them! Just that I did not completely blow
it. But I did realize that if I had not had the miss and had even a 7 instead of the miss I could have won the Championship. Oh my aching heart! I did have the highest X count though! 🙂

Well, welcome to Rattlesnake. This is the one place you can never give up. The conditions and scores can change in an instant. This match was proof of that. Last year’s winner Layne Buxton won with a 1307. Both David and I beat that score. My team also came back on Sunday to win. We just managed to hold on and it turned
out the Bad Apples lost too many points that put them in second
place. Congrats to all. We had a big batch of new junior gals that
performed so well. Brianna, Haley, Natasha and Gabby.

This next weekend I head to Oregon for The Burden Memorial Regional Long Range match. A big turnout with most of the US Palma and Development team. As David said, “Bring your “A” game!”. Hee-hee. Get it? “A”/Anette?
