Stage 8. Have you seen Stage 8? Well here is the link. This has to be the scariest thing I have ever seen. There are two Death Stars, 2 Pistol Propellers, several Spinners, moving rifle targets. Did you see the box at the beginning called the “Cussin and Crying Shed”? What am I getting myself in to? Lots and lots of fun! I leave directly from work tonight to get about 2 hours of my drive to Idaho underway.
The MGM Ironman is held in Parma, ID at the Parma Rod and Gun Club. We signed up for this match months ago and it is already here. I have 1000 rounds of .40, 400 rounds of bird shot, 150 rounds of slugs, 40 rounds of 00 Buck, 500 rounds of .233 and 30 rounds of 168 gr .308. This ammo count has been padded of course. They “suggest” that you double up on actual round count submitted. Since I am a newbie I want to have a LARGE cushion. I will be shooting a pistol at targets as I ride a zip line. I will have to slide down a steep slide with my rifle. I have to carry a 90# dummy about 25 yards. I have to shoot from a moving golf cart. The average stage time is several minutes. And that is if you are clean and fast. Maybe I should have spent more time at the gym. Our call time each day are at 6am. Really? Easy for the folks coming from the Midwest and East Coast. I have a feeling the hotel breakfast bar will not be open at 5:30am for me. Sometimes you have to quit the day because it is dark. Then I have to go back to the hotel and clean my guns. Guns! Somewhere in there I have to eat before I pass out and start over for two more days. This will be my first opportunity to use all of my sponsored product.
I have my gorgeous JP Enterprises Rifle with the very awesome Leupold VX-6 scope on it. I also have a Leupold on my Model 70 which I will use in the bonus long range shots. (Same one I used at Boomershoot last month). I am using Nosler bullets in the ammo we loaded for my .223 (77gr) and .308 (168 gr). I will be wearing my ESS Eyepro with the copper colored lens that make the details of the world pop. Normally I would be using .40 made for me by PNW but they are testing new loads and could not get them done in time. Hopefully by the 3 Gun Nation match in OR in July. I will be wearing the very cool team shirt they made me. And last but not least my special thanks to West Coast Armory where I work. Lance has loaned me an FN Mark 1 Competition shotgun. I have done a bit of tweaking to it. It now runs perfectly thanks to the work of Jim Corolo the gunsmith at WCA. I have yet to get a pistol sponsor. That will hopefully come soon. I have put my Tanfoglio aside for this match since it has been having some “issues” which I will talk about at a later date. I have stolen Charles’ Glock 35 that has been souped up for competition. I keep asking myself what have I gotten myself in to signing up for this match? But something tells me I will be back each year. I expect to have a “blast”.
