The season for shooting around the NW is pretty much over but in the fall there are a few practices and unapproved matches. We had a match yesterday at Machias which is a 500 yard range north of Seattle. A prone match of 60 rounds all at 500 yards. I place 1st High Master. 599/600 with 33X. Match winner was Pete Kislinger. Congrats Pete! He was the only of the day who cleaned all 3 strings. I only dropped one point. It was the first point of the day! Oh well. I got to test my Sierras and Bergers again. I also got to test my “new eyes”.

It had been about a month since I shot in Tri-Cities so I had a little settling down to do. My eyes were great. I still go in and out of focus a  bit and this is the first time I put a big strain on them. Might have been a bit soon still but overall great. I rested them between each shot. The conditions were very calm so I did not have to watch the scope much at all. A great day to get wind zeros. This match is always a great practice because the target is condensed and tiny. Need a good hold to stay in X ring. My first string I shot the Sierras and felt a bit all over the place. That is where I dropped the first point. My fault, I got impatient with my sighters. Long story. 2nd string was with Berger and seemed tighter but still had lots of 10’s. Then for the 3rd string I wanted to finish the 14 Sierra bullets I had left. Those 14 shots did not leave the X ring! Then I finished with Berger and those went a bit wider again. Now I can’t tell if my first string was just getting back in to the grove and not quite settled in? Because the third string with Sierras was ten times better than the first string. Hmmm. Well we loaded Bergers for the match this week in 29 Palms. I have done well with those also at long ranges. I am looking forward to this trip. It will be cold but at least it will be sunny! And of course, I look forward to winning.
