It took awhile but I finally made it to Madison, WI airport last night. I had a delay in Seattle and at my connection in Denver by a few hours. Found my rental car and started the quick 30 minute drive to Lodi. I have to be honest. I was not expecting what I saw. It is truly beautiful here. My motel is right on Lake Wisconsin. The homes in Lodi and around Lake and area farms are picture perfect. I thought I was going to the middle of nowhere. I was wrong. Even the range is lovely.
Winnequah Rifle Club. Try to figure out how to pronounce that one. Anyway, today we jumped right in to a 4 person team event. I teamed up with John Vansantford, Bud Solis and Bob S. (I will get his last name again. It was a tough one to pronounce also.) First of all we arrived way too early this morning. I wanted to follow Bud and John so I knew how to find the range. He wanted to leave extra early to get parking. Well it turned out it started an hour later today. So we were 2 hours early. Then when we got to the 800 yard line it was so foggy and muggy you could not see 200 yards away. Waited 2 hours and they called it and said come back at 1:00. Finally it cleared enough to shoot but it was still a hazy mess. Bud coached myself and Bob and then I coached Bud and John. At 800 we only dropped 1 point. My score was a clean with 12 X. Yea! Back at 900 it got more difficult to see and we had some elevation shots, myself included. Back at 1000 it was nice and dark and hazy but we did very well. I think we were only down about 12-15 points at days end. I know we at least came in second. We did not wait around to see what the other team closest to us did. We were starving and had been out there for 12 hours. We needed and deserved a beer. Or two.
Across the street from our Motel is a cute little restaurant on the water. My photo here is taken from the deck. It does not do the scenery justice. We begin the Palma Individual match tomorrow and end the day with one string at 1200 yards where I get to borrow John’s scoped rifle. 1200 yards! I am going to feel like secret sniper ninja girl when I see that target actually go down. That is a long ways away.
