About 3 months ago Charles and his friend Brian and I went out to try a new indoor gun range in Bellevue. (Wa). West Coast Armory/Bellevue Gun Range. We joined a $10 membership for a year and went in to their pistol bay. When finished we hung out up front in their pro-shop looking at various pistols. I was still in the market of buying one then. The staff member at that time was extremely informative in showing off a variety of pistols. As we were walking out we mentioned how we really liked the facility and would be back again. I noticed a sign on their front door and it said they were hiring. I jokingly said to Charles and Brian, “Wouldn’t that be fun to work at a range?” They looked at me and said heck yea, you should! “I’m kidding guys!” They were not. Brian said, “Think of all the experience you can get with range safety and firearms of all types! This could expand your shooting career you want to take.” Well, something led me back in the store and I asked if I could get an application for the job. “We don’t have apps. You need to send a resume.” Holy Crud. A resume? I am self-employed and have not worked for someone else since I was 24 years old.I will not say how many years ago that was.
At home I pulled up a resume template on-line and started in. Not having a clue I just filled in basics and then forwarded it to my friend Celeste who is the guru of resumes. She told me it stunk. “That is why I forwarded it to you! To help me!” And she did. In only 10 minutes it came back to me completely altered and perfect. I went back out to the range on a Friday afternoon and waited for the manager to come talk to me. Another guy came to me and asked if I was turning in a resume and I did not realize it was the owner, Lance. I mentioned I was interested in a part-time position. The look on his face was kind of odd. He looked at my resume and looked at me and said, “Did you see the sign out there? It said low wages and long hours?” I had to convince him I really wanted to do this for the love of the game. I did not think he was going to take me seriously. But he did! A couple of weeks later he called and asked if I was still interested. Well, today is my 5th day of work and I love it.
A little odd to punch a clock but I don’t mind. My co-workers are great and the facility is run like a tightly run ship. Very friendly and helpful staff, extremely clean, consistently D-leaded, a state of the art air system and large selection of pistols and rifles to rent or buy make it a great place to work and of course join as a member. I look forward to growing with them and getting my RSO and various training skills and certificates. Come out and visit! You won’t be sorry.
