Photo of the day – Charles getting ready at the 200 yard line to shoot Offhand.

Today was a perfect weather day. About 79 degrees and flawlessly blue skies. From what I hear, Seattle is having a horrible weather pattern of RAIN and storms. I hope by the time we get home Tuesday night or Wed that most of it will be through. I had to rub it in on Facebook and several people were not happy. 🙂

So what am I complaining about today? The windage knob on the rear sight of the Palma rifle rotates towards me if I want to move the windage to the right.  With the AR I have to turn it away from me to go right. They are opposite. I am used to the Palma direction these days and screwed up today with the AR. I had 2 great sighter shots at 600 yards. Of course these don’t count for record. My second sighter was just at the 9:00 of the 9 ring. To bring the shot back in to the X ring all I needed to do was to move my sight a minute or so to the right. Well, I turned it the wrong way. It knocked it off the paper with the help of some extra wind that came up. A miss for my first shot for record! That is 10 points gone just like that! Ugh. Now I really want to got to a match rifle. I am having a humbling experience this week. The service rifle is not an easy thing to shoot. I see some people shoot groups that are so tight and I just don’t get it! I wish I could see through their eyes and see their sight picture.

Tomorrow is our last day. It is a CMP Leg match. One needs to accumulate Leg points to become Distinguished. It is an honor to get Distinguished. This is a national award that is tough and can take many years to get. Each Leg match only allows so many points to be won. And depending on how many qualified people are competing determines how many points are given per match. Charles really wants these. I am not so determined. For that reason I hope Charles wins and I don’t. It would be a long ride home. 🙂
