What a surprise! Not only did Charles win and get the final points needed to become Distinguished but I also got my first 6 points towards the 30 needed. How cool! Just the two of us up there. A real Mr and Mrs and Smith. Only we are not trying to kill each other. Yet. Kidding! This match was to be a refresher course for me to get back in to service rifle and I ended up with Leg points also. I also got a Match Winner medal for my Master Class in the Rapid Prone. It is a huge honor to be a Distinguished Rifleman. Congrats to you Babe! You have been working for this for a while!

Over all, Gary Rasmussen was match winner. He shoots a match rifle and this is his 21st win of this trophy. Wow, how old are you really Gary? Just kidding again! Match Rifle is basically anything that is not a service rifle. Can be custom made. Can be any caliber and sights, no scopes, and magazine fed, semi-auto or stripper clip fed bolt action. Yes, they have a huge advantage over AR15’s. Shooting has come a long way baby.

I do love this across the course format of competition. I attached the video of me doing the rapid fire prone at 300 yards. We have 70 seconds to start from standing and fire 10 rounds with a mag change after first two rounds. It is something different from the slow prone fire of long range. But I do really want to get a match rifle for across the course. It is the tiny little post sight of the AR that is so hard. With the match rifle you can have the globe sight like what I use in long range. Much better to sight in on that tiny black bulls-eye.

For now I have to watch Charles stare at his Distinguished Rifleman pin and his big happy sighs. Oh boy, I have a feeling this is going to go on for days.
